"MāRV" moms get together!
The most active and willing to contribute "MāRV" moms from all Latvia together with their children met last Sunday to exchange the ideas about the work of the association and to discuss the achievements.
There are a lot of achievements but we need even more serious and systematic work for the further development and sustainability of our association. A mom with an infant goes in one of the most socially unprotected groups and is declared to be a social risk group. In two months of the association work, we have faced the acute problem of places of residence for moms who are landed in difficulties. The state and municipality for crisis situation currently offers both social apartments and rehabilitation in a crisis centre however it is for comparatively short time - one till three months. Often social houses (apartments) and crisis centres are overcrowded and a mom with children has no other choice than to return into untoward conditions. Unfortunately, in our country, no laws exist that would put constraints on or isolate the husband - oppressor from a family.
If everything will get on as intended and "MāRV" will receive necessary financial support in future we plan to found our own asylum home for moms having children. With this intention in mind we will go to Mārtiņmāja [Martin's House] in Liepāja next weekend for the exchange of experience.
We hope that our home page will soon have the portal where we will exchange our thoughts, ideas and take your suggestions.
Right now, thanks to our members and sponsors, we can offer the psychological and legal advice, which are free of charge as well as consultations about legal problems (divorce, collection of subsistence, declaring of the place of residence etc.). More detailed information by phone 6193583.
We will offer your donated clothes and things to moms, schools and hospitals from the poorest rural districts involving local governments and social services.
It was a pleasure to enrol to "MāRV" new members - Aija, Ināra and Ilze as well as to receive six new applications to become a member. We are very glad about it!
Next reunion of "MāRV" moms is intended to be on October 17. We will inform you about the time and place!

The little Laura has very sad eyes
because she is not able to see the most beautiful her mummy
LAURA was born on the 13th of December, 2003, at the 26th week of the pregnancy. The little girl weighed only 900 grams and was 38 cm tall. When she came into the world one of her lungs was not developed. There were cysts (cerebral haemorrhages) in the both cerebral hemispheres that led to the detachment of the retina in both eyes. There is the glaucoma in one of the eyes.
Laura's eyes need a surgery very urgently which is going to be performed on the 15th of October at the hospital for children in St. Petersburg. The surgery, travelling expenses and the stay at the hospital will cost approximately 2,000 LVL. At the current moment, 818 LVL have been collected.
